  • Memorial Day Poem

A Scholarship Winning Memorial Day Poem.    Note the author name and age at the end of the poem:

    A Single Tear
    If then was then
    And now is now
Then what is violence all about?
    What’s done is done
    It can’t be fixed
So why are all my emotions mixed

    They say don’t fight
    They send us away
But while I wonder in dismay
    More men fight
    More men die
But what can I do besides sit and cry?

    If things are not
    What they appear
And if everyone shed a single tear
    Could those men
    Come back to life?
To see their loved ones, their kids, their wife?

    I know it sounds foolish
    I know it sounds dumb
But as my body starts to numb
    I promise myself
    I will not forget
The face of the soldier whom I had once met

    I remember it well
    I raced into town
I fought the crowd as I scurried around
    And there it was
    Plain as could be
The smile on his face as he gazed straight at me

    Three months later
    I saw him again
Shot dead in the war, much like other men
    I went to his funeral
    My heart started to race
As they opened the coffin, that smile on his face

    I was surprised
    How could this be?
Is this the smile of a dead man I see?
    What could I do?
It was too much to bear
As I starred at his face my heart started to tear

    Someone’s husband
    Someone’s dad
Just these thoughts made me mad
    Then I realized
    It all became clear
He died proud, not in fear

    As one door closes
    A new door opens
Our past cannot be fixed, but our future can be broken
    Like the soldier
    Who died with a smile
Why can’t we stop the fighting once in a while?

    If things are not
    What they appear
And if everyone shed a single tear
    Could those men
    Come back to life?
To see their loved ones, their kids, their wife?

    The answer is yes
    Don’t you see?
That man lives on, an unforgettable memory
    As plain as day
    As simple as night
So people for once, let’s stop the fight

This poem was written by a 8th grade student in San Antonio,Texas congratulations to my Nephew
    Timothy Kellogg age: 13

  • Memorial Day Proposal

As work neared a close on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend The Travel DRS received a call from a long time client who frantically asked if I could possibly get him a romantic resort location near home (within a 70 mile radius) for Saturday and Sunday of this weekend!

Michael informed The Travel DRS that that he was going to Propose to Tannie,  and between his  work, nerves, rings, and other things he missed the fact that he needed to book a resort!  With a little ingenuinty  The Travel DRS found a beautiful resort stay at the 5***** Chateau on the Lake and include dinner reservations for an 8:15pm window table over looking the lake at sunset for that special moment.

This is of course a "To Be Continued" The Travel DRS will check on Tuesday  with Michael & Tannie.  Keep an eye on the blog  for the      Memorial Day Finale.......

Remember: If you are getting ready to "Pop the question" and need that perfect place give The Travel DRS a call/e-mail. We will be happy to assist you in making your Proposal a memory to last a lifetime!

The Travel DR'S would like to share a tidbit of information on Honeymoon Destinations, Honeymoon Dates and time to book (please be advised this is what The Travel DR'S have discoved over the years)!

Average cost of a Honeymoon for Two:

As you all know your options are plentiful, but an low range, nice honeymoon should run now lower that approximately $2000-$2500 (for two). A mid-range is approximately $2600-$3500 (for two).  Please understand these are the standards. The Travel DR'S will do their very BEST to get you what you want within your price range.

    Honeymoon Dates:

If you are honeymooning in December to First week of January of any year you should "Ultimately" start looking as soon as July to lock-in the "Best" rate. Please remembe,r that all prices increase with the holidays.

    Honeymoon Deposits:

All you Bride & Grooms are aware that you can, in most instances put down a deposit to hold your booking and make payment up to 60 days prior to departure correct?  (ask for details).

Finally, if you noticed as you entered into The Travel DR'S website, there is a BridalRegistry, this registry is the same type of registry that you would see in a Macy's or anyother store with one exception! This registry is here to assist in getting your honeymoon paid for, such as:

    Airfare ~ Resort Stay~Spa treatments~Candle Lit Dinners~Excursions

(it's your choice your friends and family can put down as little as $20 or as much as they want)

Check out Honeymoon Wishes for full details!
